Meet Karen

My Family

My father worked for Lockheed Martin (formerly General Dynamics) for 32 years and served his church as a deacon and as an adult Sunday school teacher for most of those years. My mother cared for my two older brothers and me at home until I was in middle school at which time she went to work part-time as the financial secretary for our church. My grandfather was a minister and built a church from the ground up, in the town in which my parents have recently retired; Cottondale, Texas (Wise County). I met my husband while attending Baylor School of Law. Jay and I have been married for more than ten years and we have two wonderful children, Turner (Age 7) and Sophie (Age 3). Jay has been employed by the Four Seasons Resort and Club for thirteen years and is currently serving as the Director of Tournaments. My mother-in-law is a Regional Director for the American Heart Association and former Republican councilwomen in Abilene, Texas. My father-in-law is a certified public accountant and entrepreneur. We are a close-knit family with a strong held belief in faith, family and freedom.

Early Years

I was born and raised in Benbrook Texas, a western suburb to Fort Worth, Texas. My interest in our justice system began in elementary school. While in school, at a career day, an attorney from the Tarrant County District Attorney's office spoke. It was on that day that I pledged to be a lawyer and to seek justice for all. While in high school I actively pursued my interest in justice by attending courtrooms in Tarrant County, taking a private one-on-one tour of the Tarrant County Jail facility with a Sheriff's officer and volunteering my time with the Citizens Crime Commission of Tarrant County. I continued to fuel my desire while attending college in Waco, Texas at Baylor University. During the my time at Baylor, I interned with Republican Congressman Joe Barton of Fort Worth in Washington DC, I interned with Republican State Senator David Sibley in Waco, I worked for Barbara Rusling, former Republican member of the Texas Legislature, and I interned with the Office of Attorney General in Waco.

Legal Career

I graduated Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (a major in Political Science and a minor in Communications) in December of 1998. In January of 1999, I attended law school at Baylor University where I graduated and became a member of the bar in 2001. After graduating law school, I went to work for the Denton County District Attorney's office first as an intern and then as an assistant district attorney. In January 2004, I opened my one-room law firm Alexander & Associates, a law firm that services the areas of family law and criminal defense. In the past nine years, I have grown my business from a one room office to a thriving practice with offices in Collin and Denton County. These experiences have honed my skills not only as a trial lawyer, but also as a collaborator, business person and manager of people. I am equally at home in the courtroom as I am in the office, taking a multi-faceted approach to my job. I believe our criminal justice system should always strive to be a model of justice and fairness. I have maintained this standard throughout my career, knowing those of us who live, work, and raise our families in Denton County depend on it.

While at Baylor Law, I received membership in the Harvey M. Richey Moot Court Society after receiving the honor of a "Top Ten" speaker award. I am a former member of the Texas District and County Attorney Association and National District Attorney Associates, memberships I held while working as a prosecutor for the Denton County District Attorney's Office. I have been a member of the College of the State Bar in Texas as well as a former Director of the Denton County Bar and current member of the Denton County Bar. I am a member of the Denton County Republican Assembly, Denton County Republican Women's Club, Flower Mound Area Republican Club, Frisco Area Rebulican Women's Club and Lewisville Area Republican Club. I am active in the Denton County Republican Party where I also serve as a member of the Lincoln Cabinet.

Community Involvement

Since moving to the Flower Mound Area, my family and I have attended church at Valley Creek Church in Flower Mound, Texas. My son plays for the Highland Village Area Baseball and Softball Association of which I am a sponsor and my husband is a coach.
